We may be busy at Casa de Me(n)tal Meltdown, but we want you to know that
*February 19th saw Black Sabbath founder Tony Iommi turn 66 this year. In addition to a steady series of successful chemotherapic treatments, and an honorary Doctorate of Arts for his contributions to music, Me(n)tal-Meltdown wishes the still-going godfather of Heavy Metal many more well wishes and happy returns.
*February 25th however played witness to less thrilling news, as old school thrash metallers Exciter publicly announced on FaceBook that longtime guitarist John Ricci has chosen to leave the band. Though the actual reasons behind this decision were not mentioned, his now former bandmates had wished him “the very best in his future endeavors”, following on from a musical legacy of thirty years that included a comeback album with ‘The Dark Command’ in 1997.
*A potential blow was struck for the Greek underground black metal scene, when Maria “Tristessa” Kolokouri was hospitalised in December 2013 with leukemia. However, the frontwoman and guitarist was reportedly discharged this month, to continue her slow recovery at home with her son and her husband. While it remains uncertain as to when Maria will return to working on her band’s impending new album, we at Me(n)tal-Meltdown offer our thoughts and a hope for her full recovery.
That’s all we have time for, this week. Catch you later, Ladies and Germs!
